Inspired by the shadows she observed in the earth, the artist spent many months perfecting a technique to convey objects in two dimensions on canvas. The subject is a mirror of itself, and the canvas carries its own interpretation painted by the object, especially in the case of a living item or something perishable, like people or fruit. Alexa's style of painting has an ephemeral quality, and all remaining of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved using the two processes of photography and painting. It creates two-dimensional flattened photograph. At times, Meade integrates her painted models with the 3-dimensional environment around them, which allows them to interact within this self-created world. It eliminates any distinction between photography, painting, and installation.
